Very Cool Furniture!

This past weekend we were blessed to stay at the beautiful
La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, CA. We've stayed there many times before, but this time we were in a different section than they usually put us in. The furniture in the room was so unusual that I had to share!

This is the dresser/tv stand as you come into the room
(Sorry about the flash in the TV)

The beige part of the dresser looked like bamboo

Notice the really cool leather handles on the drawers!

Tucked inside the left door is a coffee center. The right hand side is a mini bar. We don't bother getting the key to the mini bar because one time I "accidentally" at an $8 bag of peanut M&M's! Lol!

This is the matching night stand. Notice the beautiful carpet!

This is the desk. I love how the cut-out matches the design in the carpet!

This is the chair and navy blue leather ottoman. Beautiful! This is also a great shot of the wonder draperies.

Here is a picture of the headboard. Sorry that it's a little dark.

You can see the headboard a little better in this picture. It had the same bamboo-like wood. Aren't the reading lights adorable? They were wired right into the frame!

La Costa really is a wonderful place to stay. You wouldn't think so, but it's really kid friendly too! If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend it!

    Kithchen Island Make-Over

I've been wanting to do 2 things for a while now. #1 - Paint my kitchen island black, and #2 - use Chalk Paint. So...I ordered some Chalk Paint in the only "black" they offer and got busy this weekend.

On the website it clearly states that the "Graphite" color is not a true black, but if you use a dark paste wax, it turns (what looked to me) a black slate color. So I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.

While the paint is AWESOME, and the Graphite color is BEAUTIFUL, it just didn't work for what I wanted. So I basically used it as a primer (expensive primer) and covered it with a standard Black Onyx paint. I am very happy with the results. I only have one complaint....
PLEASE MAKE A TRUE BLACK CHALK PAINT!!!!!!!

    BEFORE:

Lol- Ivy is peeking from the corner

It IS a beautiful gray color for sure. I was hoping it would dry darker than it did.
     DURING:
Here it is after 2 coats

In this picture you can really see the contrast of the gray and black
      AFTER:

I don't know why this picture turned out yellowish!

    Guest Bath

This little 1/2 bath is really fun to decorate. I change out the towels and soap dispenser with the seasons. However, there are "staples" that are there no matter what the season. I plan on putting some paint on the walls, but can't decide what color. It's a tiny space and I don't want it to feel even tinier. My sister who is visiting from Alabama (Roll Tide!) was seeing my house for the first time  couple of days ago, and made a comment that it was weird not seeing color on the walls! In the south, there are rarely white walls. In California, unless your home is custom built, all the walls are white! That's fine with me because then I can paint them the color I want. But it's true! I think that's why I have a hard time painting my walls. I thought I was REALLY gutsy (I WAS!!!) when I painted 2 walls in my kitchen RED shortly after we moved in. Apparently, that's very common where she lives. We'll see...Perhaps doing the bottom half of the wall in beadboard (white of course :)) and the top half a color? Now, that might be an idea!!

I will be joining the following blog parties...please take a look! They're all AWESOME! :)

    Bay Window Help!

I LOVE this bay window we have in our living room. Since we moved in the week before Christmas, it was a great place to put the tree. But now that the holidays are way over, I can't decide what to do to this area. I thought about having a window seat or a bench there, but I'm not sure. Also, I'm not great when it comes to window treatments! Please oh brilliantly, talented, wonderfully gifted gals & guys!! I welcome any and ALL ideas!
